4 in 1 Magnetic Wireless Charger Review

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The charger I picked for my iPhone 15 Pro Max and Apple Watch was a generic one from Amazon Australia – model B620. Don’t buy it, for the simple reason that the phone’s weight causes the stand to fold down, particularly if the watch is also placed on it. Occasionally, the phone will stay in place, but it requires pushing the hinge hard, which risks breaking it.

As many similar models are available, I suggest you pick one like the one below (affiliate link), where the phone stand is rigid. Avoid a hinged model.

Review: Clear Case for iPhone 15 Pro Max – Thumbs Down

Reading Time: < 1 minute

This is the shortest review I have ever written. I just bought an Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max, a big step from my iPhone XR. I will review it soon, but I want to alert people about the Apple clear case for it. Don’t get it if you have dry hands like I do or if you don’t want to risk the phone sliding onto the floor. The case for the iPhone XR had a rubbery border, so it was comfortable to grip. I keep the phone in my shirt pocket and I am uncomfortable taking it out.

The case is probably fine, but its hard construction makes it very slippery on a smooth surface – mine slid off the end of my bed, which has a satin-like duvet cover. No damage was done, but I asked other friends with this new phone about their case. I received one recommendation.

I have just ordered the case below from Amazon (affiliate link), which is not as rigid and is half the cost of the Apple case. Fingers crossed.

Upgrading an iPhone 3GS to iPhone 5

Reading Time: 3 minutes

I have had an Apple iPhone 3GS for nearly three years and its chief annoyance to me was the camera. Any excuse to upgrade to the iPhone 5. I missed the earliest order date so I was happy to wait the estimated two weeks. As luck would have it, Optus sent me an SMS to say I could collect it on the launch date of 21 September 2012.

I got to the store around 5 pm and there were about four people ahead of me, including people who hadn’t pre-ordered. So, at least in this store there wasn’t a shortage of some models. By contrast, the Millenia Mall in Orlando had hundreds of people waiting to buy their iPhone 4 on its launch date. We just happened to be watching the spectacle, content with our 3GS.

Only four people were ahead of me at Optus World, Werribee Plaza on 21 September 2012.

Link Juice iPhone App Has Potential

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I saw a tweet from @Dixon_Jones:

New Link analysis app for the iphone! http://r3.ms/2o Very cool. has majesticseo moz and semrush data.

Link Juice app

I bought it for $2.49 and checked it out. I entered my URL and pressed Done.

 Link Juice app

Waiting, waiting. Oh, there’s a Link Juice button up there. Does it take me to the beginning? Try it.

 Link Juice app

Success. The numbers in the top box are not clickable. OK, let’s try the links below. The first one I try is SEMRush.

Link Juice app

Let’s try another one. SEOmoz Linking Domains:

Hmm. Let’s try MajesticSEO:

Hmm, I need More Details, and there’s a handy green button. Let’s see where it takes us:

Oh, it needs permission. OK:

Now I’m annoyed. This isn’t “more detail” about the link stats I was looking at but the app was closed and I am now in the browser looking at a non-mobile web page that has to be enlarged to be legible and it doesn’t even have my URL preloaded, waiting to be clicked.

The SEOmoz information is fairly detailed, but the MajesticSEO and SEMRush data is minimal – just three values from MajesticSEO:

  • Indexed URLs
  • External Backlinks
  • Referring Domains

and three from SEMRush:

  • SEMRush Rank
  • SEMRush Traffic
  • SEMRush Cost

I can’t say I recall hearing about SEMRush before and it hasn’t heard of my site, as it estimates my traffic to be 166 visitors per month.

Verdict

This is Version 1.0 and I am underwhelmed. I can imagine an SEO using this app while visitng a client but it isn’t something I’d be using in a coffee shop or in the crapper. It has the feel of a lead generator for SEMRush and MajesticSEO and not a good one at that, since we don’t get a mobile site in the browser.

Given the name of the app, Link Juice, I can’t see how the SEMRush data has anything to do with links. The SEOmoz data seems to come from Open Site Explorer, which is worth a visit in a desktop browser or a mobile browser if that’s all you’ve got. MajesticSEO is also well worth a visit with a desktop browser.

But the app has potential, i.e. provide more detail, or a connection with LinkDiagnosis.com.
