This hotel is at 10 <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Place_de_la_R%C3%A9publique\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Place de la R\u00e9publique<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 338px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20191028023311im_\/http:\/\/www.amsterdamtobudapest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_5791.jpg\" alt=\"Place de la R\u00e9publique\" width=\"338\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Place de la R\u00e9publique statue of France<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Paris Escape<\/h3>\n<p>The &#8220;Paris Escape&#8221; was an optional, 3-night extension to the 15-day river cruise:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>18 June &#8211; Arrival at Crowne Plaza Hotel in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paris<\/a>; evening cocktail reception with tour director. Dinner was not provided.<\/li>\n<li>19 June &#8211; Sightseeing tour of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Notre_Dame_Cathedral\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Notre Dame de Paris<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Place_de_la_Concorde\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Place de la Concorde<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Champs-%C3%89lys%C3%A9es\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arc_de_Triomphe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arc de Triomphe<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eiffel_Tower\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eiffel Tower<\/a>. Breakfast was provided; lunch was not provided. Dinner in the Montmartre area.<\/li>\n<li>20 June &#8211; Free day to explore on your own. Breakfast included; no lunch or dinner.<\/li>\n<li>21 June &#8211; Coach to Amsterdam (via Belgium). Breakfast was provided; lunch was not provided.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>18 June<\/h2>\n<p>When we arrived at the hotel, the tour company had a welcome table with two tour directors who gave us a timetable and some maps.<\/p>\n<h3>Welcome Briefing<\/h3>\n<p>We were asked to come to the Welcome Briefing at 7 p.m. There were nearly 120 people on the Paris Escape, so most cruise passengers were there.<\/p>\n<p>The 7 p.m. session was informative, particularly to some who seem to be first-time international travellers. We were warned about pickpockets, and one of the people present had already been approached by one. We received a welcome letter and name tags with a tour logo. Wine, beer and water were served.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150203212949im_\/http:\/\/www.amsterdamtobudapest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_5892.jpg\" alt=\"Bus sign\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Our bus \u2013 are we Evergreen Tours, Emerald Waterways, or Scenic Tours?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>19 June<\/h2>\n<p>6:30 am &#8211; Breakfast at the Crowne Plaza was fairly comprehensive, with plenty of cooked and continental selections.<\/p>\n<h3>Paris Bus Tour<\/h3>\n<p>8:15 am &#8211; Paris sightseeing bus tour followed by a Seine river cruise. The bus tour had a couple of photo stops, and we saw the rest of the sights reasonably clearly from the bus, whereas the boat had a covered (clear) top that didn&#8217;t help with photography. The boat leaves near the Eiffel Tower, but we didn&#8217;t visit the tower.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip:<\/strong> There are more attractions on the right side of the bus than on the left, but the bus returns on some roads so that both sides will see the sights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V7UBNa25lsY?si=AcPIu3bOcDofrblC\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Lunch &#8211; own arrangements<\/p>\n<h3>Dinner at Montmartre<\/h3>\n<p>3:45 pm &#8211; depart for Montmartre, including dinner. A bus took us to the Pigalle, below <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Basilique_du_Sacr%C3%A9-C%C5%93ur,_Paris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Montmartre<\/a>, and we boarded a small Disneyland-like &#8220;tram&#8221; and chugged our way up to the peak of Montmartre. We decided to do the afternoon Louvre &#8220;skip the line&#8221; tour that takes in the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. This is operated by City Wonders Ltd and we booked via Viator.<\/p>\n<p>(Other passengers had booked a tour to Versailles in the morning and the Lido Cabaret in the evening).<\/p>\n<p>We walked to Notre Dame Cathedral, where admission is free and non-flash photography is allowed.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150203212949im_\/http:\/\/www.amsterdamtobudapest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_5980.jpg\" alt=\"Notre Dame Cathedral\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Notre Dame Cathedral<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We bought an all-day ticket for the hop-on-hop-off L&#8217;Open Tour buses and caught a bus near the cathedral.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CIZdpHxg5q4?si=LSCqT9SIyAIZo0rG\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>We got off at Mus\u00e9e d&#8217;Orsay, which is a must-see museum. Go to the top level &#8211; the fifth &#8211; before the crowds work their way to the top. There are only three levels for the exhibits &#8211; 0, 3, and 5, which can be confusing. No photography is allowed.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150203212949im_\/http:\/\/www.amsterdamtobudapest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_5994.jpg\" alt=\"Mus\u00e9e d'Orsay\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We took the L&#8217;Open Tour bus to Trocadero (Stop 14), where you can see the Eiffel Tower from across the river. We returned to Stop 14 rather than catch the bus at the Eiffel Tower, where it gets full quickly.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150203212949im_\/http:\/\/www.amsterdamtobudapest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_6013.jpg\" alt=\"L'Open Tour bus\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Arc de Triomphe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Taking photos from the top of the bus enabled us to take clear photos along the same route as the previous day&#8217;s cruise company bus. There is a recorded commentary on this bus, so you can hear about the buildings you pass. If you want to take photos without heads in the photo, you will need to catch the bus at the start of the route and grab the first row on the top of the bus. Be sure to use sunscreen.<\/p>\n<p>We had pre-booked a 3-hour tour of the Louvre that let us skip the line. City Wonders operated it, and we had a very knowledgeable guide who took us to the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and all other significant exhibits.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150203212949im_\/http:\/\/www.amsterdamtobudapest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_6135.jpg\" alt=\"Mona Lisa\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Mona Lisa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After the tour of the Louvre, we walked to the bus and were dismayed to hear that the day&#8217;s service had ended (it was 7 pm), so we had a very long walk back to the hotel.<\/p>\n<h2>21 June<\/h2>\n<h3>Coach trip to Amsterdam<\/h3>\n<p>6:30 am &#8211; Breakfast (bags left outside the front door)<\/p>\n<p>At 7:45 we met in the lobby and left for Amsterdam by coach.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150203212949im_\/http:\/\/www.amsterdamtobudapest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_6158.jpg\" alt=\"bus\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Our bus to Amsterdam<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Brussels<\/h3>\n<p>The lunch stop was Brussels, where we had about two hours to look around the city centre and find our lunch.
