We explored this UNESCO World Heritage city with our guide. Boasting one of Europe\u2019s largest intact medieval town centres, Bamberg is bursting with character and charm.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190518193422im_\/http:\/\/www.amsterdamtobudapest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_7082.jpg\" alt=\"Bamberg\" width=\"600\" height=\"282\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bamberg is pretty<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--more-->At the town centre is the largest preserved old quarter in Europe. Around 2,400 listed buildings and the centuries-old garden quarter form a special cultural heritage. We admired hundreds of building fa\u00e7ades, richly decorated in fascinating detail with spectacular ornamentation.<\/p>\n<p>10:00 &#8211; Presentation on the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal by cruise director.<\/p>\n<p>12:00 &#8211; Ship docked in Bamberg, 1.5 hours ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n<h3>APT Ship AMAverde<\/h3>\n<p>The AMAverde had been sailing parallel to us daily and docked next to us. A lady there asked us if we had been &#8220;evicted&#8221;. She explained that they had been told to pack their bags as they would be transferred by bus tomorrow to Nuremberg and transfer to the AMAbella, whose passengers would do the reverse. The reason is a &#8220;lack of water&#8221; in the Main (river) &#8211; Danube Canal.
