Set on the crossroads of ancient trade routes in the heart of Europe, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bratislava\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bratislava<\/a>, the capital of Slovakia, embodies various cultures \u2013 primarily Celtic, Roman and Slavic.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190518202656im_\/http:\/\/www.amsterdamtobudapest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_7813.jpg\" alt=\"Bratislava\" width=\"600\" height=\"265\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bratislava town square<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>08:45 &#8211; Disembarkation briefing.<\/p>\n<p>09:45 &#8211; 10:15 &#8211; The ship docks near the city centre, so no bus was needed. We chose to walk about 15 minutes to the Eurovea shopping centre, which is along the river bank. It is a modern, multi-storey structure.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190518202656im_\/http:\/\/www.amsterdamtobudapest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_7819.jpg\" alt=\"Eurovea\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eurovea shopping centre<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>14:15 &#8211; 17:30 &#8211; Today&#8217;s highlight was a home-hosted afternoon tea with a local Slovakian family. We were divided into groups of about 12-14; each group went to a different family. We went to the town of \u0160enkvice, northeast of Bratislava.
